When medSummary is selected from the medEncounter menu, the user will choose a patient by the same method as in medEntry (patient record number, name, part of a name, sound-like, etc.). medSummary then searches the medDataSafe patient record database for all clinical events associated with that patient. Since the summary document is created upon demand this assures the user that the most current information is accessed. This information is then displayed in an organized summary fashion with encounters represented by notations on a quick-view simple 24 month calendar as to the frequency of encounters, reports, lab tests etc. Users may chose an source-oriented view (all events grouped in a specific related-group order showing most recent items within that grouping) or a time-oriented view (all events in reverse chronological order - most recent events first), event-oriented and problem-oriented views. The information can also be sorted by type - such as an organized summary of all radiology encounters, drugs prescribed or all lab tests and other types of criteria. At any point the user may select a specific encounter, test, etc. and view the entire source document. This allows clinicians the ability to quickly view all information about the patient. This is a view-only function and does not allow changes and is very useful for quick information-rich reviews and for users not authorized to edit patient documents.
